Conscientious, Fulfilled, and Spiritual

19 Renaissance, 6 Islamic, 8 Ukiyo-e, -30 Cubist, -27 Abstract and 1 Impressionist!

The Renaissance was a cultural movement that profoundly affected European intellectual life. Beginning in Italy, and spreading to the rest of Europe by the 16th century, its influence affected literature, philosopy, religion, art, politics, science, and all other aspects of intellectual enquiry. Renaissance artists looked at the human aspect of life in their art. They did not reject religion but tended to look at it in it's purest form to create visions they thought depicted the ideals of religion. Painters of this time had their own style and created works based on morality, religion, and human nature. Many of the paintings depicted what they believed to be the corrupt nature of man.

People that like Renaissance paintings like things that are more challenging. They tend to have a high emotional stability. They also tend to be more concientious then average. They have a basic understanding of human nature and therefore are not easily surprised by anything that people may do. They enjoy life and enjoy living. They are very aware of their own mortality but do not dwell on the end but what they are doing in the present. They enjoy learning, but may tend to be a bit more closed minded to new ideas as they feel that the viewpoint they have has been well researched and considered. These people are more old fashioned and not quite as progressive. They enjoy the finer things in life like comfort, a good meal, and homelife. They tend to be more spiritual or religious by nature. They are open to new aesthetic experiences.

*grumble .... Victorian patterns ... *grumble* ... no instructions .... *grumblegrumble* ...

I love living in this country but come November 4th the incentive to move elsewhere might be tipping the scale very much in favor of packing up. I'm filled with apprehension, not only about possible riots should the pendulum sway in a different direction than anticipated but also what will happen to this world should the wrong kind of estrogen step up to higher - too high - honors.

New Zealand sounds like a good place, but Europe might be more like it ...

A family day

Yesterday we spent a most wonderful family day at home with arts and crafts and decorating and dear friends calling and visiting in the evening. Nothing is better to recharge drained batteries than a sun-filled day like that.

Our porch looks awesome after the three of us got into the Halloween mood. My men hung a huge spider web across the entire front of our porch and spent the next couple of hours to craft a spider from papermache with multicolored pipecleaner legs and glitter pompom eyes. Orange pumpkin buckets are suspended like lanterns all along the front and a sheet of styrofoam was quickly cut into small tombstones and painted with spray paint. Eerily and looking mighty fine they now grace our planter boxes. Two handmade ghost puppets wave at passersby from high above. Finn is incredibly proud of our efforts and has been babbling about them non-stop.When Martine stopped by to gift him with a castle playbox he finaly got distracted (and has been ever since *G*). We shared dinner and chatted away which was really nice and about time. Life has been picking up pace lately and somehow there are never enough weekends.

Later that evening, after a nice meal of roast beef with a dark and flavorful sauce with fresh mushrooms, potatoes au gratin and mixed peas and carrots Terafan called in - kind of like an extra special dessert. No longer his apprentice I don't think I'll ever stop wishing he'd live close-by or closer. I hope we can make it over to his and Dubheasa's new home sometime soon. Not only because I really really want to make a pavilion but because I enjoy hanging out with them and that bond created through our Master-Apprentice-relatio nship feels as real as ever.

Keeping fingers crossed is

In love

It is a beautiful Florida autumn morning: the air is crisp, palm trees are swaying gently in a light nippy breeze rustling quietly in answer to the exuberant chatter of the squirrels playing catch amongst their fronds and the sky is a glorious icy blue so typical for this time of the year.

It's also freaking freezin' if you're asking me but I freeze easily and with a steaming mug of hot cocoa and fresh baked cookies I can tuck my besocked feet under and pretend it's not too cold ... yet. Besides, cookies, hot cocoa and the ooey-gooey goodness of smores just work their magic so much better when it is cold. The best of all, though, is the smell.

The window next to our computer nook is cracked open a few inches. Just enough to allow a stealthy breeze to carry the seasonal smell into the house. The air tastes cold and harsh carrying with it a waft of woodsmoke from a house nearby where the fireplace has been lit for the first time in months. And I love it. The aromatic scent of a wood burning fire brings back memories of many cool and cold nights at my first events.

It revives the magic of songs sung to dancing flames and smiling faces toasted to ruddy glow by the fire. As if it happened just yesterday I can once again walk the narrow path into the forest to find fire wood, my Norse jewelry jingling ever so lightly with each step, my breath forming clouds of white before my face in the crisp early morning air. Salty soot on my fingers when the fire is finally ablaze and I can see them wrap around my cup filled with steaming tea while the water bubbles merrily in its cauldron suspended above the fire.

I'm so very much in love with wood smoke.

Weekend rapport

I had a splendid weekend, both Saturday at the SCA event as well as Sunday with my two men. It was funny to notice how much I enjoy teaching what I have learned and how much I'd missed it.

My two classes went well and the experience left me content and satisfied. I did not get to touch base with everybody I'd set out to see that weekend because I got sucked into the vortex of evil that is Master Thomas's forge every time I ventured out of the class cabin. Heh :o)

Standing around the lightly smoldering fire definitely stirred my craving for spending a leisurely weekend playing medieval cooking my meals over an actual camp fire. I've got it bad for down and dirty medieval games so I'll need to pick an event to do just that.

Court was fun too and I have the picture to prove it :o)

Presidential debate

I didn't watch it  :o)

Not because I'm not interested but because I have made up my mind and getting into debate mode only gets me riled up for nothing at this point. I'm not a citizen, I can't vote, which would give me at least an outlet.

So I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.

And if all fails Newsealand sounds awfully nice :o)

Time to get ready for hibernation!

This time of the year I feel somewhat related to bears. The light nip in the air, the first taste of wood smoke on the breeze makes me want to get ready for hibernation. I know winter is just lurking out there but for now the Florida sun is still pleasant and the skies are heartbreaking blue.

I've decided to alter one of my existing dresses to a different style (This idea was sparked by my finishing the frontlaced kirtle - a supportive garment worn under a different style dress). The black velvet dress is undergoin changes to soon be a burgundian dress. Today I ordered the belt buckle for the cloth belt from Raymond's quietpress and I can't wait until it's here. I already changed the waist- and neckline and only will have to alter the sleeves and add a collar and it'll be ready to go! Instant wardrobe fix and much more rewarding than starting from scratch. I don't like having dresses hanging in my wardrobe that I won't really wear ... or am reluctant to wear. Next thing I'll have to think about the appropriate head gear :o) Fun!

This coming weekend is Scripto-Mas, the combo event of Michaelmas and Scriptorium. I have volunteered to teach classes and I'm looking forward to some scribal goodness. I think the muse is returning, finally. All that's left to do is put together the class kits for my second class on making medieval brushes, pack my basket for the day and be on my merry way. Maybe I'll even manage to sneak off to the archery range, who knows?

My webpage is coming along and I still like the new look. That bodes well :o) I have remedied the lack of content to my satisfaction and I'm plodding along adding new things as I stumble across them. If you're curious, the link is to the right ->
