Travelling Time and Space

Design or desaster ?

Adolf was here :o)

What if ...

It is the nature of the newspaper industry that turns reporters into vagabonds. With one, maybe two a city a reporter has to literally move on when the time comes. For my husband the time to start looking came about a year ago and it appears that change is in the air. Nothing definitive yet, mind you. A few promising exchanges but no contract yet. We will see what the future holds. The very near future, I suspect. Now, those of you who have met me would never consider me shy or timid. Quite the contrary, most of the time. Upbeat, enthusiastic and always in action. That's me. Those of you who know me is that the extrovert me is more of a mask slid into place conveniently and with the ease of years of practice to tie my two sides together into one coherent unit. Frankly, I'm shy. It takes me forever to open up to people, a select few that is, and big crowds make me uncomfortable. I enjoy familiar faces around - it provides me with the background to let my gregarious, upbeat other half run free and have fun. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hide, that's me. It has taken me about 2 years to reach my current comfort level. Not just SCAwise but overall. Immigrating to another country, as similar as it may be to your own, is never easy and you only realize how difficult it really is when you actually do it. Picturing a move to a different State perhaps weighs heavily on my mind. I love my new home, my friends, my new found family. I love my kingdom with all its quirks and funky twists and it finally fits like a comfortable slipper. Moving would make life interesting, but the whole idea of starting all over again sounds very much like work :o/ Yes, in order to familiarize myself with the idea in general I have already poked around the area and checked out the local groups and I must admit that I have more or less made up my mind where I'd like to move to but the thought is stirring up those butterflies in my stomach like crazy. Will I really have to buy into those new fancy slippers ? To make things really difficult I do support my hubby wholeheartedly in his quest for a cool job, and you may spank me next time you see me because I did encourage him to send in those applications. He will always come first and it is through him that I put down roots here. But ... I'd rather not uproot and move. Meh :o/

Does it ever stop ?

Finally we've got the rain we small and big gardeners were hoping for.

All the rain.

All the rain we've been waiting for ever.

Within a week.

All of it.

That's a lot of rain, I tell you. So much rain that we've been stuck home more or less all week except for the past weekend and we're teetering on the edge of cabin fever. While Finn is not averse to walking through rain bundled up in his raincoat and armed with rain hat and boots he will not go outside when it's pouring like buckets. Neither will I :o)

Monday it rained so hard that the little creek that poses the southern border of the Park down the stairs left its bed and spread out through the park changing grassy playing fields into a serene raindrop dotted lake. It reached all the way to the band stand. Some streets nearby provided no safe passage, well except for small boats and floats. The creek is back in its bed, gurgling close to the upper edge of the sidewalk and licking the curb and there is only the telltale sign of debris caught in wire mesh fences. And puddles. Everywhere. So if it stays dry for a little today Finndragon and I will don the rubber boots and go puddle jumping !

Still need to finish a White Scarf and sit down for 2 Court Baronies, a Grant of Arms and an Augmentation of Arms sometime this week [no, I don't have to finish them  but I need to get started :o)]

Until later !

Scriptorium 2007

Another year, another Scriptorium.

With hubby being away for a Journalism conference I had Grainne, Willow and Finneadan staying with Finn and I over the weekend and we really enjoyed the company. All of my three classes went really well with interested students eagerly asking questions and all left the witch's kitchen with working quills and handmade brushes :o)

The "Guerilla gilding" class suffered a bit from the very high humidity that day but since I'd packed neat little kits for everybody to take home we went over the basics, more or less successfully gilded a small sample design and then everybody had all the materials needed to give it another try or two or three at home with a working a/c taking care of the moisture level in the air.

Finndragon is finally old enough to participate in the children's activities and with his babysitter Courtnie in tow he spent all day doing 'stuff'. Penda and his family had organized the coolest kid's program and when I poked my head in head in between classes  Finn only waved and then shooed me off again as he was 'busy' :) My baby is growing up.

Feast was marvelous and the Irish Cream served to the adults with dessert just delicious. Finn and Willow decided to help with serving feast and bravely shouldered a pitcher of water together to refill glasses. That almost had me in tears with pride *L* My baby - serving feast - oh Lord ! He's just turned 4 but he's a little big man in his own right, and growing a bit more each day.

Now I'm waiting for pictures so I can show you :o)

All the cool kids are doing it ...

Your home is a

Daylight Magnate's Castle

Your kitchen is manned by a team of Keebler Drow Elves. There's a Chocolatessin, a word you made up yourself, but that is beginning to catch on among your wealthy neighbors. Your master bedroom has a bedside table with a pad for writing down late-night inspirations. Your study has every fantasy novel ever written, including multiple editions of the Silmarillion and advance copies of Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition. One of your garages holds your collection of ferraris, and is measured in acreage.

Your home also includes a gallery of your favorite works -- the originals, of course. Your guests enjoy your home theater with hi-def plasma screen TV, and the thrones you watch it from. Outside is the moat that protects your home from goblin invaders and extended family.

And, you have a pet -- a cat named "Vincent".

Below is a snippet of the blueprints:
