Master Countdown

After two long years I'll finally get to see my master again :) In less than 24h I'll be picking him up at the airport - woot ! I'm all bouncy and excited. It'll be good to see him again and to talk face to face - and here's the best - without any kind of kingdom business or errand making him run to and fro so all I get to admire is his backside *G*

The house is clean, the laundry almost mastered and folded into submission, the guestroom all set and ready and the fridge is stocked. I feel pretty accomplished and I smell the part too. Off to the shower it is :)

Tomorrow morning Milica is going to stop by to feed me some american breakfast concoction called a "breakfast casserole" - yep, we're having breakfast together again before I'll head off for Orlando.

Sooooooo ... just to warn you, I might be a wee bit distracted the next week and not update as ..uhm, faithfully as usual ;)

Not to mention the week after Terafan's vist since my mom is going to be here for Thanksgiving !

Baby\'s Art Night

Well, that's what I saw one mother call the evening every week where she sat down with her toddler and did some kind of craft :)

Finn and I end up doing some kind of craft pretty much every other day, mainly because there're so many projects and the supplies kicking around and Finn is magically drawn to those and secondly because it's a lot of fun to do messy creative things with him. Tonight we ended up painting tapestries together :)

I'd prepared my first draft a few weeks ago but then didn't get around to actually painting it. This afternoon - while the winter squash soup was simmering on the stove - I decided to give it a shot and since Finn was still around and I didn't feel like waiting until bedtime I cut up some canvas to paint for him. He got his own paint palette and brush and both of us painted happily away. Finn had a blast painting fabric using his brush and complained loudly when he wasn't allowed to go back to it after dinner. He wailed "Malen !" [german for "Draw !"] for quite a while when I sleepsacked him and brought him into his room.

Guess we'll have to do it again ;)

Anyways, the latex paint primed canvas took the acrylic paint just great and shading is a walk in the park. I'll get new batteries for my digicam tomorrow so I can show the first finished parts.

Almost weekend

The weekend is almost here and with it the time where pretty much all the mailinglists I'm on are going to slow down as people leave for events and other trips.

We are planning on a fairly relaxed weekend at home checking out the new library sometime saturday and running a few pre-vistor and pre-thanksgiving errands, maybe even make it to church on sunday.

I have a stack of pre-drawn scrolls asking quietly to be calligled and to be painted and several other project ideas lined up inclduing some that concern home decorating issues :) Since Scriptorium I have been slacking enjoying the first time in months of SCA-free time. I was even too late for the meeting last night and only stayed to drop off a few items we found on site during clean up and to chat with T. who's been absent from a lot of meetings the past couple of months. It was good to see him again and trade our latest toddler adventures :)

The Finndragon's had a great week at the playground. We fed ducks, doves and squirrels and I got to chat with a few other mothers while Finn and the other wrecked havoc between the slides and swings and climbing structures. Finn loves to climb and it's amazing to see what he tackles considering I hate to climb higher than 2 steps on a stepladder. He's a LOT more careful now around ants though after his run in on tuesday. Finn managed to step right into one of the blasted nests and then stood there fascinated by all the commotion he was causing amidst the tiny ants until they returned the "attack". trust me, they are nasty. Tiny and in no relation to their size nasty. I had to undress my screaming Finndragon and turn his clothes inside out to get all the little biting beasts off of him and now his legs and feet and hands are covered with the red dots of antbits. I have no idea why he isn't scratching himself to raw bloody flesh. I have two antbits on my feet and they are killing me. I can't imagine what it must feel like to him.

Anyhow, I'm off to play with a recipe for a wintersquash soup to see if we like it enough to have it as a light lunch with cornbread muffins at Thankgiving. I prefer to eat the turkey late-ish so it's an actual Thanksgiving Dinner but that means I need some kind of food for lunch. last year we had a greatspinach dip and all kinds of little veggies and chips to dip and even had left overs to use as mayonnaise substitute the next day but this time we thought we should give one of those other recipes in my "Thanksgiving 101" book a shot.

I'll let you know how it turns out :)

I'm freeeeee !

Scriptorium came last saturday and went by.

Without. a. single. hitch.

Everything from early morning arrival to late night lock up went incredibly smoothly and it appeared to me as if everybody was enjoying the event. We had everything : from bright blue skies to laughter int he courtyard, from all day long childrens activities to all day long classes that were all well attended, from delicious lunch to mouthwatering feast. It was great and all the work before the advance paid off very very well.

We'd planned to break even with 60 full-paying guests. We were dreaming of an attendance of 80 and we closed the books at 98 guests :)

The Silent Auction went great and together with the fundraiser lunch we are now able to donate a good $800 to the disaster relief fund ! Yay us :)

And on top of that, I'm freeeeeeee ! That is, until I get myself into trouble again *G*

There - it\'s gone

My voice that is and instead I have to make do with a scary wheeze suitable for any kind of Hollywood horror movie.
Finndragon thinks it's hilarious and giggles whenever Mommie tries to say anything or even raise her voice above a whisper. Mostly I'm scurrying after him like a silent guard :)

I hope this is gone or almost gone by saturday or else I fear for my class ...and my general effectiveness as autocrat. Innis suggested I carry a stick to poke people with ... Tempting, but not quite my style *L*
