In case your email starts with angiesto95 this is for you :
That email address stopped working so while I'd be happy to give you a few pointers as to how to get started on making your own webpage I can't get in touch with you

TV Soup
09.30.05 (7:59 am) [edit]
Here's a list of my favorite TV shows in no particular order. While I don't like TV shows with plenty of episodes to miss and loose track of what's going on in general there're a few that caught my attention last season and this season again and thanks to modern means the dangers and frustrations of missing episodes is much reduced :
Boston Legal
[hilarious :) makes you have a thing for lawyers]
Lost - Flight 815
[okay, so what the heck is going on ?!]
Veronica Mars
[from the same brains as "Buffy"; look out for Weevil and Logan Echolls]
Desperate Housewives
[ well, d'oh, I am one *G* not quite as desperate though ;) ]
Invasion
[kind of, we'll see how it continues. I'm not too much into alien-shows]
All that goes on when it's too dark to do archery, by the by. This weekend I'm going to corrupt hubby to the evil side of killing your target from a distance without getting hurt in return ... hehehe ...

That's what I call "slacking" - it's been quite a few days since my last blurp :)
Partly, Hotmail is to blame for that. If I can't get my email, and hotmail hasn't been very cooperative the past week, I don't spend too much time online. I have a good-sized home, a toddler and a husband to keep me busy and then there are my various projects in case I feel like I need to be a bit busier ;)
The Finndragon is teething on his last molars and has been keeping us busy for the past week as well. He has trouble sleeping and napping and usually by 5:30pm now he goes into screaming fits because he's desperate for sleep. Noooot a fun thing to watch and to have to take care of. Molar No 1 is already there so there's hope that soon we'll be back to normal.
SCA-wise I'm emailing back and forth with people about the Silent Auction at Panhandle in october and I'm trying to organize Scriptorium for november both of which is fun. On sunday I held another Scribal Tea at our house and we had 8 people attending ! Woot ! All 7 scroll blanks were claimed, some even finished so come Panhandle we get to turn in a few *S*
Oh, and we're still waiting for feedback from the Tampa Tribune :)

I've got it bad
09.22.05 (7:16 pm) [edit]
Really bad, I guess. I dreamed of my old household last night and woke with a sigh and a smile.
Here comes another one
09.22.05 (5:47 am) [edit]
Rita.
R. Last year's list of names for storms ended with J for Jeanne. Tells you how wild a season it's been so far this year and unfortunately the season is still going strong until the end of november. That leaves us with plenty of time for more named storms.
Welcome to sunny Florida !
Heh. When I moved here almost 2 years ago, the fact that Florida had a whole season devoted to nasty storms wasn't really popular knowledge on my side of the world. The face I made the first time the apartmentcomplex manager dropped off the Hurricane Preparation Guide on our doorsteps was priceless, I guess. Today I know a lot more about hurricanes than I ever wanted to know about'em. That's Life for you. I'm still lucky though since our city seems to be the opposite end of the hurricane magnet of Florida. Rita is bringing us only bad weather with wind and lots of rain - nothing bad, really, and compared to what's in store for people in her path, it's ridiculous to mention it.
So if you've got a moment today just light a little candle or some incense or whatever your religion suggests you do and send some good thoughts and wishes towards the people at the Texas coast - they'll need it.

Last Night
09.21.05 (8:02 am) [edit]
Last night I had open house for yet another A&S Night which I've been running for almost a year now come october. One of the funny things about it is that I still have to send out reminders so people don't forget :) even for the 'regulars'.
So in case you're nearby, we meet at my house every 1st and 3rd tuesday between 7pm and midnight for an ARts & Sciences Night. Bring a project to work on and some kind of snackfood to share and enjoy great company ! Let me know if you need directions ;) And no, we don't meet on the 5th tuesday *L*
Last night saw some sewing, painting and lucet-cording and LOTS of friendly chatting. I already got three scroll blanks for sunday done and am working on No4. [and there are NO household chores other than the "picking up after the Finndragon" and cooking waiting for me - Yay !]

Weather Update
09.19.05 (11:09 am) [edit]
It's very warm for the season, by the by, with temperatures ranging around the mid-90s during the day so going to the beach is still an option especially considering the water temperatures are around the mid-80s :)
Hurricane Philippe and Tropical Storm Rita are around and about and it looks like we [that is lucky us in Jacksonville] won't get to see either : Philippe is mucking about out on sea and Rita seems to be headed for the Gulf obviously out to give the Keys a hard time. Let's keep an eye on them and see what they are really up to ...

Not the perfect housekeeper
09.19.05 (10:38 am) [edit]
It's monday and that means BIG BATTLE DAY !
On mondays I always do most of my weekly housecleaning chores including loads and loads of laundry. I refuse to do any housework on weekends since that's my family time. If anything I make sure the stack of dirty dishes is taken care of but everything else's got to wait until monday.
I'm not a perfect housekeeper even though I'm actually trained [no, not only by my Mom but also by professional hoteltraining] and most of the time I know better but it just doesn't strike me as -that- important. I'd rather do to a playground with Finn or do stuff other than making sure my windows are gleaming.
Well, they are not, mostly because we're on the second floor, have screens in front of every window and on old-fashioned pulley windows to begin with so other than with a tall ladder there's no chance you get to actually clean them. Ladders and little me so don't go together and so the windows are only clean-ish from the inside. Sometimes Finndragon and his sticky fingers are just too good to fight completely and I just cannot be arsed to wipe after him every minute he's awake. I have a very few clutterzones, mainly my craft area and the computer desk but other than that I'm a fairly clean and neat person on a superficial level :) I like open floor space so there's plenty of that.
Something you miss quite often in other SCA households ... I've seen some very messy apartments and households; places that'd drive my mother and insane and make me antsy with the wish to clear at least some tiny spot of floor before I choke because there seems to be no space. And I'm usually not afraid to let people into my house, even people that show up without a warning. My mother on the other hand ...well, good thing she lives across the big pond *G* That gives me plenty of warning and enough time to polish the moldings and other ittibitty things you'd never notice unless she's around ;)
Some advice I can offer : Check out Flylady.com for help on getting routines down. It's little things that can have a great impact on how cluttered and how well organized your home is. And there's an equivalent for SCA people as well with reminders such as "Empty your ice chest" for mondays after events *G* It's on yahoogroups :)
Well, the next load of laundry is due - talk to you later :)

Yet another lazy weekend
09.17.05 (4:11 pm) [edit]
It's exactly that - a lazy weekend with lots of time to relax, snooze and doze in the sun and just hang out family-style. Tomorrow we might swing by at the San Marco Art Festival because that area is just so nice for a sunday afternoon stroll :)
Not much else is new *S* I've dropped off the Panhandle scrolls at T.'s place so she can make copies and I've started cutting the big sheet of parchment into smaller pieces for a possible booklet project and I got some more research and compiling of notes for my norse bead project done. Monday I'll swing by at the art supply store for paper and get started on the linedrawings for the scroll blanks for next sunday's Scribal Tea.
It's been 2 years now that I've gone to work [I'm on german maternity leave, not to mention the fact that I still don't have my immigrant work permission -and- I do enjoy having all the time on earth to watch the Finndragon grow and learn]. However, once in a while my brain starts twitching with all kinds of business ideas I could do from home. Now, that'd be neat :) That'd combine the best of everything. The biggest drawback though is I'm not a Sales Person *L* and that's be something I'd have to overcome or else those business plans are going to fail from the start. Maybe I can put up my "hotelface" and just pretend ?

Muhaha - I did it !

Tonight I finally got started on doing target archery ! [insert trumpet fanfare here]
I bought a fibreglass bow and three arrows some three years ago in the hopes to do target and maybe later combat archery as my contribution to the martial arts in the SCA only to have my hopes flattened by somebody who thought that you cannot get started with target archery unless you by a $300 original english longbow and make your own arrows. Well, you know I thought giving it the proverbial shot with an inexpensive bow first to see if I actually liked it would have been one way to get started with improving the kit at a later day but nooooo .... archery went into the box with a lot of ice and got pushed to the deepest and darkest corner behind all the other cool ideas and projects and plans I had [and still have].
New Shire, new luck and again lucked out. What sounded like male enthusiasm and promising at first turned out to be just hot air *sigh* That was a year ago. In spring I heard another male creature use the word 'archery' and 'start a company' for the second time and again, nothing.
Mind you, I have books and bookmarks, a bow and arrows, but frankly when it comes down to practical experience I can only admit to holding and shooting my Master's bow twice and hitting none. Some practical advice and guidance would be kinda cool, once in a while :) Really ! And I can live without being the activity leader just once incredibly well, honest to God.
It wasn't meant to be. Here I am, watching my old Shire start a whole company or target archers and future combat archers from a yearning distance ...well, until tonight. Some three weeks ago while our german guest was still here and needed to get some sports shopping done for her male friends back in good ol' germany [Nike, Puma, etc.] I ran across this target sack *G* Dirt cheap, and something bit me again. I bought the thing and tonight after plopping the Finndragon into bed I gave it a shot *G*
Oh Man, was that FUN !
I have bugbites all over because I chose the little narrow alley between the house and the fence to keep people safe during my first attempts, arranged the sack neatly against the palm tree and shot it *G* I even managed to hit it, occasionally at first, then a lot more regularly later :) Actually hitting the target [or ...uhm, err, the palmtree trunk behind it] has the benefit of shortening the distance you have to walk to retrive your arrows afterwards too - instant reward !
I'm pretty sure my neighbours will believe I've gone completely insane now but that's fine :) It's fun and I plan on doing it again.

Almost done
09.15.05 (6:54 am) [edit]
Last night I hit a painting "high" and so both donation card and gift certificate illumination are done. Some finishing touches will follow tonight and tomorrow I'll hand them over to T. so she can make plenty of copies :)
That means there're two things off my to-do-list - wheeeee !

The cold that I brought home from 20th Year has been evolved into some kind of sluggish braindeadness. I'm oh so slooooow and would probably sleep all day given the chance. Even the Finndragon is sluggish and snuggly although he is teething on his last set of molars and based on experience with the first hundreds of teeth in his mouth that's a very draining experience. And not to mention the WARM weather; we're hitting the mid-nineties during the day and that just makes you want to curl up under the ceiling fan and stay there until the temperature drops.
Which is what it does now in the evenings - wheeee :) That means fall is officially here. In summer the temperature doesn't really drop during the night so spring and fall can be easilly spied by checking for cool fresh air at night and in the mornings. Seasons are a lot more subtle over here but if you know what to look for you can tell them as easilly as 1-2-3. It's absolutely beautiful, by the way *S*
So, what else is new ? Not much from the usual hamstermill-rush. I'm still doing the Silent Auction for Panhandle and have prepared donation cards, gift certificates and bidding forms for it that need to be copied. I'm autocratting Scriptorium and if all works out well we'll be able to present a really scrumptious list of classes to all who want to come or are thinking about coming :) I'm looking forward to my Master's visit and Turkeyday and I started compiling notes for my projects for Art-Sci in january. Until then I'll have to get 8 Art-Sci scrolls done as well as a couple of blanks to paint at September's Scribal tea.

25 hours instead of 24
09.09.05 (5:57 pm) [edit]
Now, that'd be a start. Wouldn't help much but at least there'd be an hour to sneak away for maybe a nap or a hot bath or just a plain cup of tea and some staring into the off.
As it is, life is busy. Good ol' plain busy, and I'm trying hard not to get sucked too deep into this frantic activity that's churning in every corner of the realm while keeping an eye on whatever storm is twirling Ms Indifferent-like in front of our coast. It's not only a busy hurricane season, it's a season of freaky stroms. Storms that twirl on the spot for days and then wander off, storms that sneak up and brush past in some gangster-style drive-by shooting with plenty of demolition only to boomerang back double their original size. "Ophelia", our all-american sunshine state girl, is idly oodling out there just off of our beaches obviously incapable of making up her mind where to go. Well, other than in circles it seems. So far she's been galavanting towards us, then made up her mind and started to veer off towards Nate and Maria's happy twosome out on sea and now it appears she's wanting to come back [prolly figured out threesome's usually end up not so lucky for no. 3].
Anyhow, that's for the storms. Tomorrow is hubby's birthday and we [Finn and I] got cake and birthday cards and presents [leeetle ones, of course; hubby's family doesn't really do birthdays] and we'll give him the traditional Seidel-family birthday treatment with singing and making lots of noise with pots and pans. Finn will definitely like that, I'm sure *G* Hubby's brother is here to add some more "Bang!" to the whole thing ;)
Since I decided that hubby's slacking days are over and he's supposed to go back to fighter's practice on sundays I made him a new tabbard complete with an applique-style device on the chest. That was a labor of love, trust me. People who choose devices that are made up of three gauntlets and a moon in contemplation should do all their heraldic display items by themselves *nods gravely* or be shot. Can't shoot hubby though :) 'cause then I'd be here without anybody understanding my european ways.
*yawn* Right, sleep ... remember that extra hour I was asking for earlier ? Now, that's why. I'll drag my old and tired body off to bed now. Maybe we'll go to Chambline's Bookmine tomorrow [evil evil bookplace] and go treasure hunting !

Afterall, there's Ophelia swirling out there just short of our coast and we're all keeping our fingers crossed that she'll veer off to follow Maria and Nate out onto sea.
In the meantime we enjoy the nasty weather she is brnging along : lots of rain, some wind but not too bad and a cloudy sky with some hazy sunshine seeping through :)
I'm still a bit groggy from my cold but I'm getting better. Must ahve been that humid, rainy but sweaty-warm weather all weekend, I guess. I tripped alone, leaving hubby and the babydragon home with the a/c and a dry bed. Finn had been grouchy all week and it didn't sound like a good idea to take him to a place with no airconditioning so he can properly sleep, especially during the day, possibly ending up stuck in a tent because of the rain at one point. I think Tim was right about that. I didn't like the rain either but at least it's warm *G* Saturday, after arriving on site in the morning, paying my dues and setting up my little groundwart and my other stuff I spend some time helping at gate until I needed to change for the procession, hung out at the Scribes's Point, went back to gate to help some more and had a great dinner with Martine, Innis and Nick until Martine dumped half the Teriyaki sauce over my dress *G* The smell of roasted garlic teriyaki is still strong in my nose :)
Cleaning up that and other disasters it was time for the associates's party and some dancing and at around 1:30am I feel into bed to the sound of a racoon - possibly - snuffling and sniffing around our encampment.
Sunday I attended a Blackwork class. Yep, you heard right, Blackwork embroidery *G* No, I'm not going to take up a new craft. I'm busy as it is but it was still interesting to learn some more about an art I admire but won't pursue. Too little patience on my side, too.
Gate closed early so we didn't have to worry about that anymore and I had enough time to take a look at the entries for the Laurel prize Tournament. I had especially fun with the lady who entered the altarcloth with whitework and drawn thread embroidery as she was playing at her persona who'd vowed to make an altarcloth if God the almighty granted her husband recovery from his sickness *L* It was truely hilarious :) There weren't too many entries, maybe a dozen and I wish I hadn't send Tassilo's scroll to Drachenwald already or else I'd have considered entering as well. All future my A&S projects for the competition in january were on hold before 20th Year which was good since I was already busy enough.
Now there's finally some time again for me to get back to doing calligraphy and illumination. I haven't touched a brush in 2 months at least and there're some commissions due by the end of the year. On the other hand, I'm going to be A&S chancellor for Panhandle Skirmishes and autocrat for Scriptorium [Wanna teach ? Let me pamper you !], my Master is coming over for a visit and then it's almost december and christmas and oh my God .... *L*
What a ride :)

If I feel any better later today I might be able to give a short report on how the weekend went. Right now I just feel like dying since I caught a cold and a fever sometime at 20th Year :(
