Travelling Time and Space

...

The den's clean and I'm ready to tackle the remaining "Big'ones" from Drachenwald : 2 County scrolls and one extra special Court Barony. I think I've been procrastinating long enough *S*
It's just amazing what happened to time throughout the past two years : it sped up and it sped up and all of the sudden you realize - with a gasp - that Finn, our babydragon, is going to turn two this summer. Two ! Two years ! Ack ! How did that happen ?

Time keeps flying by and seems to be speeding up more and more every day. You plan for something and you turn around and it's already been a week, a month, half a year since you first thought about it.

No wonder I'm having a hard time keeping track of birthdays *L*

Anyhow, off into the shower and then into the den :)

Talk to you later !

I'm singing in the rain

... and later I'll be cleaning up the den that turned into being the house's craftroom for the last week or so.

Now I can go back to working on my german renaissance dress and the scrolls I have here ready to be painted. The next event I'm going to for sure is in may, Spring Art-Sci, where I'll be even teaching a class in illumination.

This time I'll sit down and make a lis of all the things that need to be done until then and I want to be ready and packed on thrusday night the very latest. Having to do things on a last minute on friday just sucks and I want to work on timing my projects properly. With a husband and a young child these last-minute-things just cause unnecessary stress :)

Morag from the Kingdom of Lochac created a A&S project management assistant to help herself and others to time their projects better; too many projects live a sort of half-life in shelves and closets and this project management tool supposedly helps you plan your project from the start to the end and stick to the plan *g*

I'll give a shot and let you know how it works :)

After Event Report

- Court Business is fun even if it means you get to squat down at a tiny table in a dark corner behind a door that keeps going to write down names on scrolls and dates and whip out another AoA just so because there was no other scroll.

- It is absolutely incredible to see the most deserving person finally be awarded a GoA watching him look utterly and genuinely dumbstruck not realizing what is going on and his wife bursting into tears of joy for she has been craving that gesture of appreciation and acknowledgement for him for years.

- Reaping your reward of keeping quiet and creating a scroll in 6 weeks of absolute secrecy. not to mention the stupid impish and smug grin that's still plastered on my face *G*

- It is hilarious to have Tim and Finn win the Tavern Brawl [you're supposed to drink the drink, steal the gold and get past the gropey wenches that want the gold]: well, Finn drank the drink [water], Tim fined the Innkeeper for serving a minor and the wenches helped him bring the poor drunken child home *L* TRMs got a royal kick out of it too ;)

- Meeting other Ex-Drachenwalders, even if you never spent much time with them when you were in the same kingdom, is fun and a good thing. You get to trade experiences and find out you're not the only one going through those :)

- Not getting to drop off the stuff for the Gulf Wars giftbasket kind of sucked; maybe I can mail it ?

- Since I got to arrange more scrolls for court I made sure that scrolls done by Tamara and Martine were used so their names were mentioned in court for dong illumination on scrolls *G* I was tickled pink to see both of them tickled pink about their work being used in court. It's the best reward for a hardworking scribe :) next to the Oooh and Aaah of the populace and the happy sappy face of the recipient, heh.

- Using a drop-spindle is a challenging thing to do, especially if you're a textile-art-challenged person just like me *g* I suck at it but I'll practice it for a bit. At least until I have destroyed the puff of pretty wool Beldthora gave me to practice with.

Hmm, whatelse ? Saw a pretty dress [german renaissance, d'oh], lots of middle eastern and persian stuff, lots of merchants, lots of Cara's gorgeous trims and Finn had a blast collecting all the cool sticks and stones he could find. I wonder when he's going to figure out what his pants-pockets are for ;)

Back home we put Finn to bed, cleaned up the mess, had dinner and then simply crashed. It's 9am now, the next day, it's raining buckets and I'm the only one awake, well, except for the tomkitty curled up on the back of the couch behind me. Sucks to be me *G*

Bookmaking

Tonight the C-scribes met to make booklets for the event giftbaskets. It was fun :) We used acid-free parchment look paper for the signatures and jewel colored cardstock for the cover which we are going to illuminate for spiffy looks.

As binding we used the japanese stab-binding method which makes for a nice sturdy back and looks pretty on top of that especially when done in contrasting thread.

We have a pretty box covered in green fabric to keep and present the booklets and in total I think we did a great job *S* Sitting around a table, doing some craft and chatting and laughing was good too.

I just got the news that one of our MOPS Moms lost her baby 8 1/2 months into her pregnancy. I'm still shellshocked and close to tears not able to fathom how deep such a loss is. The phrase "your flesh and blood" is not just a saying; it's the truth in a nutshell and whenever something happens to my baby, my "flesh and blood" I can feel it reviberate through my own very being.

I usually don't do this and for those who know me they'll probably think it strange because if anything I'm a closet christian but maybe, if you have the time, you could light a little candle and send love and good thoughts [or whatever you would consider a prayer] to the Mom and family of the MOPS Mom and our little lost one.

Projects

- Norse Garb Workshop : second installment "Underdress/Braies" due tuesday 15th, 2005

- Gift Basket Meeting, possibly saturday 19th, 2005

- Scroll Assignment, deadline saturday 26th, 2005

- Norse Garb Workshop : third installment "Overtunic" due tuesday 1st, 2005

I'm actually wondering how long each installment for the garb workshop will take. It's not like anybody will handsew their dress I think and machine-sewing norse garb an be really fast. So I'm guessing 1 or 2 A&S Nights for each dress piece, especially since it's just the barebones dress with dress decoration being a later installment.

Now I only need to find a good day for the next Scribal Tea and the Castlemere Gode Cooky Dinner Club *chuckles* Then I'll know when I have time for my private projects :)

Connected to the world

Today our telephone was hooked up again and even though the wiring of the old house gave the telephone guy some headache we're now once more fully connected to the rest of the world. Just a few more things to move and install [window treatments, of course] and then it's time to turn to adding homey touches here and there and we're done ! We're going to need some extra furniture for all the room we have now but I don't want to stuff our next with clutter. I love the wide open space and the light and airy feel to this place and I'm not going to change that :)

Sitting on the porch bathing in spring's sunlight and enjoying the comfortable warmth while checking my email and drinking a cup of tea is now one of my favorite things to do. Provided Finn is taking his morning nap which he is trying to skip. That, of course, doesn't work at all because he's still a little guy and needs some decent naptime during the day.

I just measured the windows in his room and cut the fabric for his curtains. If I get Tim to install the hardware for the curtainrods [I'm too short, unfortunately] Finn's room will be completely done by tomorrow. Then I can tackle our bedroom next.

And then I really really have to sit down and get my hand-out ready for next tuesday's A&S Night and the seond installment of the norse garb workshop as well as finish 2 more scrolls that have a deadline approaching :)

Busy ? Me ? Never ;)

The madness is over

Cable is back, the internet is working again and except for a handful of boxes everything is already unpacked and settled into our new place - yay ! Our new apartment is already starting to look like a real apartment with furniture at its place, books sorted into shelves and pitures hung on the walls :)

Hallelujah !

I just can't stand clutter even if it's in the form and shape of moving boxes and I'm very quick at settling in and making a place mine, Or ours in this case. Finn's room was the first we set up completely, even before the kitchen was set up. Finn loves having all that extra space to run around and he seems to really enjoy the big balcony-porch that's usable even if it's drizzling or raining. It's got a roof, y'know :) Anyhow, like Tim phrased it "living at this place is like living at a historic bed & breakfast" *L* And he is right : the two fireplaces we have are just gorgeous so are the hardwoodfloors and the high ceilings with all the nice wood-trim and mouldings that make this place feel anything but a rental apartment. And it's oh so quiet and peaeful here despite being downtown. Our street is quite with close to no traffic other than the people who live on this block and there's Klutho Park just around the corner. No elephants living upstairs, no noisy parking lot, no screaming, no yelling, no car alarms in the middle of the night.

And by tomorrow even the city will be back to normal. Today the Superbowl madness ended with a 24 to 21 victory of the Patriots over the Eagles. No, I have no clue about the general game but I watched it anyhow and had Superbowl food [chicken wings, mozarella cheese sticks and chips and dip :) ]

More tomorrow !
