Travelling Time and Space

Busy busy

Busy busy busy ...

It seems that both Finn and I are working on a decent cold. Finn started a couple of days ago with being whiney and sporting red eyes from an eye infection and today I finally picked up on it aching all over despite a hot bath and I can feel the cold creeping up my spine and into my throat. Usually my voice is the first thing to go.

Good thing that at least Finn's due for a doctor's appointment tomorrow. Mine is next week and has nothing to do with colds and sniffles, heh.

And I have sooo much to do ! *L* Bah ! Kingdom scrolls, ex-kingdom scrolls, event scrolls, garb and stuff and preparing for two more classes I'm going to teach while coding two webpages, one about my stuff and a second one for the scribal group here.

Can you say "AHHHHHHHHHH" ? Heh, knew you could ;o)

Babyboogie

This past weekend revolved mostly around babies *G*

Finn turned 1 year on saturday. I can't believe it's been a whole year since we first got to see eachother face to face. And how much he has grown in this year : from a little nearsightedly blinking mewling bundle to quite a handful of an impish chubby toddler who loves to goof around. You should see him 'talk' on the phone picking up the phone with a politely inqu iring "Ha ?" to then babble on in his baby language. It's hilarious ! We had a little birthdy party for him complete with guests [uncle and aunt from Orlando], lots of presents [we need a third bedroom, really], cake and candles and balloons.

On sunday I was invited to a babyshower and went without my men who stayed home and had a men's night without mommy watching over their rough games *g* At the babyshower we swapped babystories and tons of advice and , of course, lots of adorably cute stuff for the soon-to-be Mom and lil' yet unborn Ian. Tim and I still think that's too early for us to get back into the productionline even though we both can see having another of those little monsters. Ask us again by the end of next year ;)

The work continues

Last night I managed to type up a decent introduction and the first bits of the 'chapter' on the female dress for the Norse Garb Party. And I'm already at two pages - it's going to be one hell of a hand-out *L* Everyone who's heard about the "dressing up the teddybear and the plushrabbit in norse garb for display" idea loves it and tells me to do so [and take pictures too *g*] and since I think they'll double niftily as toys for the babydragon at events in the future I'm going to do it. It'll be great to get rid, err... put all those fbric remnants to good use too, hehehe.

I finally discovered another quite addictive channel on TV : FineLiving *sigh* It's got everything that makes living fine : food, drink, decor, places ... booooooy. It's going to be the channel to watch while embroidering my next norse tunic and aprondress.

Let's call it a night for tonight though. The bathtub is calling my name, the babydragon is in bed and it's hubby's TV night so I have some extra me-time to waste *g*

Tata !

Task-tackling

Tackled writing the hand-out for my Norse Garb Party next month. I thought about dressing up two teddybears in "passably authentic" norse garnments for demonstration purposes and fun.

Plus they'll be an awesome disply for the upcoming FCCJ demo in september too *g*

Going online

So I'm back to working on my webpage that is long due. Unfortuntely, Mi's webpage 101 went offline and vanished into the unknown after a server switch and never really reappeared. There are bits and pieces somewhere floating around, most of them in misnamed files and unnamed disks, but in the end there's not enough left to just upload and go from there.

I'll have to redesign and type it up all over again.

Bleeh :(

Most of it, I think, will be done in german. There are so many SCA webpages out there, so many SCA articles and a wealth of information for any SCAdian but most of it is in english; and the Frankmark in Drachenwald could need some german 'stuff' online. We are working on a german SCA portal for that reason too and we hope that this will help keeping the SCA alive, even after the US withdraws the forces and with it all US SCAdians.

So, stay tuned for more :) I promise to upload the first bits and pieces of my webpage soon.

Laaaazy

Lazy weekends are good for the soul, and in hurried and rushed times like these absolutely necessary.

So our weekend was as lazy as possible -we didn't even go to church *gasp!* *g* we simply napped : Tim on the couch because he's afraid he'll squash Finn flat rolling over in his sleep and the Finnbug and I curled up on the bed snoozing in unisono. We are so used to sleeping together that I don't share in Tim's worries. Finn's this little warm peacefully snoozing presence to my side, I just can't ignore him even in deepest sleep. Odd, eh ? It's prolly part of the whole mommy-schtick *g*

Lazy, lazy, lazy. Add to that nice food and a good movie and join into the fun !

Ha Ha Ha

Anybody recognize the quote above ? Hmm ? Any guesses ? Yes ? No ?

If you don't recognize the quote then I recommend reading a few "Jack the Ripper" books - he notoriously used the phrase "hahaha" in his letters to Scotland Yard. Must hve sucked to work there then.

In case you tasted blood [Yuck ! Excuse the dead pan *G*] here's an awesome webpage about the case http://www.casebook.org" title="http://www.casebook.org" target="_blank"http://www.casebook.org with a very lively forum and lots of Ripperologists.

And even though I'm not a Ripperologist I'm pretty fascinated with the case. I guess it's a Nessie-thing : you don't know if it's exist and that mkes it all shiny bright and mysterious. -And- you aren't sure whether you want to know everything about it or not because then it might loose its fascination and that would be terrible.

Anyhow, don't go reading just every Ripper book - go, find something that's more like an enzyclopedia. Most books just favor their suspect and while it's kind of cool to see through their eyes, it gets annoying after a while because you only hear about the evidence that proves their guilt and the other stuff that doesn't, well, gets left out and is ignored.

I hope this blog entry was a tad more interesting than yesterdays *g* but after typing away and inserting a smiley - kablooie - my entry was gone and I didn't feel like writing it up again. I survived the surgery and felt tons better than after the biopsy. Today I'm feeling like my old self and while I won't run around and crry Finn too much I feel in pretty decent shape.

Heaven bless local anesthesia ! *G*

Update

*sigh*

Today's entertainment feature is my Charley-rescheduled surgery at 3:30pm. I doubt I'll be much in the mood to update the blog afterwards so this will have to do until I feel better *S*

Wish me luck !

Until later :)

You Are Early Period Norse!  You have a deep desire to explore, conquor and carry several bladed weapons of various types on your person at alltime.  Your men are fierce, your women are<br>proud and your children typically run around SCA events buck naked and unchecked.  You have an overwhelming love for chunky amber necklaces and braids.  Remember, pillage BEFORE you burn!

to-do-list

- prepare Scribal Tea class for september

- prepare hand-out for the norse garb party

- teach class on button-making at one of the next meetings

- calligraphy the thank-you scrolls for PS

- design the winner-scrolls for PS

- finish old assingment and send them in

- research norse glassbeads and jewelry techniques and start using the torch and the glassrods I have

I thought my list of things to do needed some serious work and this is the result. I dropped a few things or rather, put them onto the backburner for now. There's just not enough time for everything right now and having a smaller list will open up room for new projects one at a time :)

What a concept *G*

A near miss

Charley spared us - arriving at the Daytona area he decided to swerve off, out to the sea and away from populated areas merely sending rain our way. It wasn't even breezy over here in Jacksonville while in Daytona people still had to go through hours of power-outages, just like further south in Orlando.

Not to mention the mass destruction down south where he'd had his landfall : Port Charlotte, Ft. Myers, Sanibel Island, Porta Gunda - flattened, squashed and broken, some places reduced to splinters, others to trash and demolished goods. It could have been worse but seeing the pictures in the news I think it's been bd enough. The willingness of the people up north to help and support those who got really hit by the hurricane is amazing and comforting.

Like I said, we're fine. All we got was a tad more rain than usual, no wind, and the temperatures dropped a solid 5 degrees Celsius, so now it's almost cool, but that was it. Man, did we have a lucky hand *S*

Waiting, waiting

Nothing new here, we're still waiting for Charley to arrive and doing his thing before scampering off to Georgia and then - hopefully - out to sea. Right now it's headed for Orlando which he's going to hit at around 10-11pm tonight ... and from there it's a mere 3h drive to Jacksonville so by midnight we'll know more.

We're still set : fed, and with enough supplies to last us a good 2 weeks, not to mention enough books to keep us and Finn busy ;)~ And I'm not nervous at all. So far all we've seen were normal everyday thunderstorms throughout the day, it's not even windy. It's almost too quiet and too normal to really realize what's coming up from the south and the destruction it might bring.

I'll light a candle  [or two] for the poor sods down on Sanibel, Ft. Myers, Tampa, and, and, and ... wouldn't wanna trade with them.

Good luck and Godspeed and more news tomorrow !

Bonny and Clyde

Well, it's actually Bonnie and Charley, two tropical storms/huricanes headed our way and we are waiting for the nasty weather they are going to bring - among other things.

Bonnie hit town earlier today and did manage to leave some destruction in her wake : 15000 households without power, the Red Cross had to set up shelters, etc. Fortunately, not in our part of town. Aside from a little breeze and interesting lead-grey skies all was quiet over here.

Tomorrow is going to bring more weather excitement since Charley, the bigger of the two, is going to hit us right into the face while Bonnie merely brushed us on the northside of town [and was downgraded even before she hit us. Poor Bonnie, everybody is picking on her]. The apartment-people dropped off huricane-guidelines and I have secured all my pots and plants and stuff on the porch, just in case. Don't wanna see my strawberries go airborne ;)

Reading through the guidelines, more fascinated about it than scared because I have no idea of how bad it can be and by nature I'm just an aweful optimist, I was amused that we're kind of always ready and set for the worst : duct tape, water supplies, food in non perishable to last us between 2 - 4 weeks, batteries, flashlight, two cars and and and ... *G* And neither of us is a "end-of-the-world" freak, if you know what I mean.

So, no matter what Charley is going to drop into our lap tomorrow we'll be fine I'm sure. Oh, and my surgery got delayed to next friday because of the storms.

Until tomorrow !

Copycat

Yesssss. Ssssir ! It worked !

I have about 30+ thank-you scrolls due on october 15th and frankly, while my calligraphy is quick and sure and steady, doing 30+ scrolls with the same layout and the same text is two things

- tedious work

- boring

So, once I'd the design and the scroll layed out and inked I had it copied. On decent paper. At a decent store. And guess what ? The copies are so very good that I had a hard time telling the master from the copies *G* Just the way I like it. Now, ll I have to do is the calligraphy and a tidbit of painting.

Yay me !

Beta posting

Uuuu-kay, so after the new beta version deleted my last entry when I dared add a smiley I let a few days pass before making another attempt at posting here. It certainly helps that time still flies by like mad *g*

Anyhow, latest news cover a cat and some other little tidbits of useless information.

"Guinness" seems to be a runaway teenage cat who decided that we looked like decent enough worshippers and serve decent food. So that little creature that is all black fur with white boots and mittens that is all skinny legs decided to stay and is now guarding our porch against other cats viciously.

She is adorable - as cats go. I'm not much of a cat-person, I prefer dogs, but she is sweet. I think she earned most of her brownie points by being absolutely adorable with Finn who - delighted nd absolutely thrilled about his new friend - gropes and paws and wildly pets her, pulling tail and ears and whisker and still - no scratches, not even a warning hiss. A-ma-zing ! She suffers his clumsy affection with incredible patience and if she's had enough she gets up, walks around him and flops down gracelessly next to me or Tim for a moment's time-out before Finn charges her again.

So, Guinness it is :)

Lst sunday I held another Scribal Tea and gain it was lots of fun. The class was "Illumination 101", we had two absolute newbies join in and chitchtted amiably and had great food. It's good to know that people come back after suffering one of my classes and it's even nicer to know that those who can't make it for once complain and whine about having other responsibilities that day. I must be doing something right.

Last thursday I went to my first Shire meeting here since I know have a car and don't have to either negotiate with hubby or wait for him to come home early. It was fun and I got to meet lots of new people I hadn't met at fighter's practice yet. Business was easilly and speedily dealt with and I dropped off glassbeads for the Royal Gift Baskets  and scrolls to paint and, and, and ... *g* Gotta keep myself busy, right ?

Busy it is so I'm off for tonight ! I hve plenty of scrolls to do, lots of translations for german SCAdians, not to mention a good handfull or two of my own projects and a house to keep and a husband and son to pamper and spoil and ...

More tomorrow !

My baby did it !!!!

Yeeehaw, Huzzah, Vivat !

My baby did it ! It's now a fullfledged [okay, adolescent *g*] Shire ! After just a year !

Alright, so by now you've guessed that I'm not talking about Finn :D While pregnant with Finn my bestest friends and I gave birth to a new SCA group, the Incipient Shire of Aventiure, and after much negotiating and diplomatic ~intercourse~ with our neighbouring group we finally were officilly recognized in june lst year.

A year later, a -mere- year later we were now proclaimed a "full" Shire, group that has proven to be stable and capable of making it on its own *G* Piece of cake, with having the best Chatelaine, the coolest Signet Clerk, the insanest kingdom deputy MoS and a whole truckload of more active, enthusiastic and industrious people on board :D

It's so cool *G* even though I'm not officially and physically with the group anymore. It is and will ever be my baby and I'm damn proud of it.

Same goes for Finn, without saying
