Your favorite archangel is back
06.29.04 (1:47 pm) [edit]
Still fighting the stupid cold I caught but on the way of success

Rafael. You're most like the ArchAngel of Healing.
You want people to shape up, and you nag. But
you mean well, and you're well loved despite
it. Or because of it. You bring the donuts
even as you tell people to eat more veggies.
Which ArchAngel are you most like?
brought to you by Quizilla
Heh :) I don't know about the whole healing nd shaping up business but I love to cook and feed people and I do like the healthier version of edibles.
On the other hand, two words for you : Chicken McNuggets with sweet and sour sauce .... YUMMY !
Bah :(
06.26.04 (7:12 pm) [edit]
You wouldn't think that you can catch a cold in hot summer weather and no airconditioning - well, let me tell you : you very well can :(
*snifflepouts*

Be gone, useless blob !
06.25.04 (6:23 pm) [edit]
So now it's gone, the little bouncing purple and very useless blob *g* It has had its 24 hours of fame - that's gott be enough.
As for my 'fame' - wellll, that needs some serious working on. Of course, more scrolls with my name, more posts on the trimris-temp list and just more visits to events are going to help with that. However, due to Trimaris's size it's not going to be as easy as in Drachenwald where after the second event you recognize and are recognized. There're just too many people here and so I'm back to feeling like a relative newbie.
After succesfully "invading" my new Shire and setting up camp as "the scribal viking" complete with hand-outs and scribal meetings and since recent days ownership of the Shire's scribe's mailinglist I think I need an office *G* Well, "deputy-dy" that is, to be correct, because Finn is quite a handful and comes first along with hubby.
After trying to hook up with the Minister of Youth [and not having heard of her for almost a month now] I'm contemplating offering my help to the group's MoAS. I've done that before, MoAS-ing that is, and I think it'd be fun trying to corrupt those people here to more A&S activity.
Anyhow, be gone, useless musings and ideas and off to the Scriptorium, scrolls are awaiting ink and paint and the brilliant sheen of gold !
Yeeee-ha !
:D
Spiffy looking in new garb

06.23.04 (8:08 pm) [edit]
If you have been reading my blog for a while now you know why there wasn't an entry last night :D
Right ! Tuesday nights are newcomer's class night at church. This time all three of us went but I'm sure that Tim got the most out of it. He's covered religion as a reporter and started a rather quirky question and answer game with Father Rick which was at times interesting to listen to.
Too bad he didn't get the joke on communion and the Atkins-diet with the wafer - according to the principle of transmutation - turning into ...ahem, protein ...
Anyhow, I still think it's funny *g*
For the past week I've been trying to set up a budget for our mundane household juggling with and balancing our income and expenses in way that'll still allow us to have some fun and guess what ? It worked ! With allowances for carry-out and books and movies and SCA .... wheeee *L*
World upsidedown
06.21.04 (5:33 pm) [edit]
It is so very odd - at ~home~ ie in germany or rather Drachenwald these summer months are usully the busiest of the year.
It's warm enough for camping and lots of outdoorfun and the months are filled with event, event, event, lst-minute-projects and lots of activity in all groups.
Here, all is slowing down because of the summer heat. Sure, there is Pennsic and Pennsic Pity Party somewhere for those who cannot go and sprinkled here and there onto the calendar little one-day-events.
And then there is little norse me, itching with ideas and energy and lust for events and court and wars and at night I go to sleep with my desires unsated ... *theatricl sigh*
Come fall I'll have to be institutionalized - bah !
Oder wie man auf deutsch so schoen sagt : Ich krieg' hier den Huettenkoller ! :D
Chaos
06.19.04 (6:13 am) [edit]
Wellllll, y'know, it seems that there's a whole lot of people that are scared ? afraid ? of doing the B. thing. I just can't figure out why.
I mean it's not like it's going to happen -today- as soon as they say "yes !" to the idea. And even after it's settled on society level it will take some more time until the final details are discussed and planned so we're speaking of a process that might last as long as 2 or 3 years.
Anyhow, I have the impression that the "against" half of the group is still somehat stronger than the "for" half and nothing is going to change for a while to come.
Long live stagnation
I mean, it's a game. However, some treat it too seriously obviously believing the involved 'power' to be real. Unfortunately or better fortunately, nothing has an impact on the real life.
Even if I were a knight my boss could still kick my ass and fire me in a heartbeat.
Being a king does not exempt me from having to pay taxes.
I can be Seneshal in my Shire and still be the underdog in the pecking order of the supermarket crew.
Right ?
Right.
So I'd say "Bring it on" - chaos, apocalypse, work - whatever it takes to turn this place into a B.
Guess it's never gonna happen 'cause it means that people would have to play together for a common goal for a while and that rarely happens.

Who will go drive with Fergus now,
And pierce the deep wood's woven shade,
And dance upon the level shore?
Young man, lift up your russet brow,
And lift your tender eyelids, maid,
And brood on hopes and fear no more.
And no more turn aside and brood
Upon love's bitter mystery;
For Fergus rules the brazen cars,
And rules the shadows of the wood,
And the white breast of the dim sea
And all dishevelled wandering stars.
It seems that our Fergus, the ratty white Pontiac Sunbird we've been driving and ho's been Tim's "noble steed" for quite a while now, is not going to come back to us.
Two days ago on tuesday night when we were supposed to go to the church's newcomer class Tim and Fergus got broadsided on their way home. Fortunately - despite everything that could have happened - Tim didn't get injured and so did the driver of the other car although he as stupid enough to run over a red light.
So no we're waiting for the outcome of the insurance battle and have to buy a ne car to replace poor Fergus.
So much about budgeting ...

B, B, B
06.14.04 (7:53 pm) [edit]
Let me be a B. !
Or rather become a B. That's the topic swirling in some members's heads in our group at the moment.
Advancement. Achievement. Apocalypse.
While I'm sure that becoming a B. is one of those procedures that may call for intrigues, envy, jealousy and all the other fun of political life I'm not so sure it's that bad an idea. At least it's a goal, something to work towards to, something that's keeping you from drifting in shallow waters until the last of your days [if you want to put it poetically].
I think it should be discussed openly, pros and cons should be heard and written down [the written word has so much more impact and works so much nicer as food for thought] and maybe even a few polls should be run as to get an idea of why people are for or against the B. thing.
Simply meeting requests to discuss it with icy silence is akward and not very productive.
Back into the sandbox - wheeeeee !

Dry theory
06.13.04 (7:01 pm) [edit]
There's a german saying that "Alle Theorie ist grau" [all theory is gray] and they are pretty much right about that one : just theory is pretty blah and it's a lot of work to make it at least some fun.
So today was my second scribal tea class, this time with an introduction on the Books of Hours, medieval prayerbooks. And truth be told, just doing the plain theory on those books and their contents, etc. is definitely plain and gray.
That is until you get to see the amazing artwork, the lavishly illustrated and illuminated pages with their intricately detailed miniatures and fine handwriting. And all the delicate details, the monsters in the margis [called "grotesques"], the peasants and their passtimes, the nobility with their fabulous fashion, and, and, and...
If I run this class again I'll re-structure it and probably even change the hand-out too *nods* give it some more color *nodnodnod* although I had a funbit on book curses too
Anyhow, it was fun, people seemed to have fun [I had T., C., Th. and D. over and except for C. they are regular visitors to the scribal tea; for C. it was a first :) ] and the food was good too ! Tonight we had lemon chicken-drumsticks with onions and sage, marinated bellpeppers, marinated babycarrots and an italian noodlesalad with green pesto and warm bread. Hmmmmmmmmyummy !
Next month's scribal tea is going to have a practical hands-on class again, this time on illumination. And that's going to be a lot more fun
For now though this is it - I'm going to cuddle up with hubby and a book !
Tata !
Dragons living on my porch
06.12.04 (6:52 am) [edit]
Granted, they are only small dragons and most people refer to them as "Geckos" but I swear they do look like little dragons.
They bathe in the sunshine basking in the early summerheat during the day on the sunwarmed wood of the fence surrounding our porch. Some - the male ones I guess - display a bright orange colored skinsack under their chins, others are small and brown and grey bespeckled with little darkbrown dots and others again are dark, almost a dark dark slate-grey.
Slowly they move when all is quiet and they are gone in the blink of an eye when you try to join them.
I love the screendoor - it hides me from their little amber eyes and allows me to watch them dream in the sun of times of castles and knights and wizards and a beautiful princess in distress.
Finally hubby is back and it's wonderful. Now my world is complete again, whole. The past week - despite that extra me-time for stuff - has been the longest since I moved here. I slept better, and funny enough, so did Finn :D
And now weekend in all its splendor lies ahead, the sun is shining from a bright blue sky, Finn's is babbling while dragging his ty-telephone along and I'm sitting here with a cup of tea enjoying the morning while Tim snoozes some more [he'd had to get up too early too often the past week *g*].
Life is good :D
Aaaaaaand ...
06.10.04 (9:49 pm) [edit]
... late again :D
And not much more to talk about either. Finn and I spent most of today running around taking care of errands such as shopping for Finn-underwear because he's on the way to outgrow most of his onesies nd in the run of it he got a drag-along-telephone and a pair of swimshorts, checking out hotels for my parents's visit and giving my parents a little first report on the phone, cleaning up the house and hanging up pictures before hubby comes home tomorrow, and, and, and.
However, tonight - and short of midnight - I finished writing up my "Book of Hours" class hand-out. Yay me !
I'm going to have 5 scribaly people over at my place this upcoming sunday for this little introduction, some scribal chat and some scroll-work aaaaand some nice food. I'm thinking about making italian lemon and herbs chicken drumsticks along with some antipasti [marinated carrots and zucchini] and some nice salad.
Sounds good ? I thought so, plus work is so much more fun if there's some nice food to reward you
Alas, it's time to go to bed - Good night, good night :)
Not quite "tomorrow"
06.09.04 (8:31 pm) [edit]
Eh well, trust an archbishop to end a class at 8:30pm like promised *chuckles* When Finn finally had enough of people calling him cute, being kept out off his bed and threatened with another ride in his carseat and started loudly demanding we go home at around 9:30pm our most esteemed archbishop finally realized that time had just zapped by and dismissed us.
Aside from that it was kind of nice even though I'm not a big church person. You just don't grow up to be one in germany. Church there is too stuffy, too conservative, too old. Here - or at least the churches I've been to so far - it's alive, brimming with fun and activities and -gasp!- young people who are all very committed to their church and to their faith.
The service at the church we go to and Finn is going to be baptised in is a miture of gospel-swinging-singing musical and catholic rituals. Odd, eh ? Makes for a nice, quite intriguing service though and it does move. Even me :) It's a bit more formal than the Pentecostal church of Tim's parents which frankly was just too ...uh, informal. That rocking diva showing off on stage was just, well, so not church *chuckles*
Anyhow, we got back home at around 10pm and after helping Finn trade carseat for crib for proper quality-time in bed and a sweet phonecall from Tim I finally crashed into bed. Nights are short again as Finn's teething on 4 !! teeth at once ... bah  And you can't even comfort him with the prospect of having forgotten about the pains of teething as soon as all teeth are there.
Today we've been driving around a lot, much to the babydragon's dismay, but we were scouting hotels for my parents's stay in july. They'd send me a list of places they'd found online and so I drove to those checking out the neighborhoods, rooms, etc.
Aaaand I found a place where you can buy Mexican Chocolate ! Wheeeeee ! :D If you like common hot chocolate you should give the mexican variant a try one day. It comes pressed to round cakes of chocolate and sugar and cinnamon and dissolves in hot milk. Despite all the sugar it's not horribly sweet, but rather spicy and has a taste that goes very well with christmas. Must be the cinnamon
If you want a cup of mexican hot chocolate to double as meal use half and half instead of whole milk *G* and add a little hat of whipped cream on top.
More tomorrow  Seriously *L*
ACK !
06.07.04 (9:53 pm) [edit]
Ack, almost midnight !
And here I was wanting to go to bed early - heh
Guess those scrolls got me all sidetracked and distracted, and even though it's later than I'd anticipated I didn't simply waste time which is a good thing.
Afterall, I got the calligraphy on 7 scrolls done covering a variety of different awards that are on our Signet's wishlist. I hope to be able to drop off a nice little stack of scrolls at the Knowne World A&S Symposium at the end of the month in Orlando and this week - with Tim being gone to Savannah to cover the G8 summit - I obviously do have enough sparetime in the evenings.
However *sigh* tomorrow I have to go to church and live through the first of 6 newcomer class classes :?
We want to get Finn baptized and they don't do drive-by baptisms for non-members sooooo we have to play by their rules and do the class and become members. It's a nice church though and their sunday service is not too freakish compared to church in germany :D
More tomorrow ! Be good

Oh glorious food !
06.05.04 (6:34 pm) [edit]
Since our favorite supermarket had "FISH SALES DAAAAAY!" today we're having salmon tonight : Juicy thick perfectly pink salmon fillets grilled with slices of sweet vidalia onions, garlic, extra virgine olive oil and fresh lemons.
The smell is heavenly and we're set and ready with a fresh crispy salad on the side, baked potatoes and garlic-parsley butter and warm bread. Yummy !
Isn't food a heavenly treat ? Even the lengthy and timeconsuming process of shopping for food never ceases to excite me : to choose the fresh vegetables, the fragrant herbs some of which are growing on my porch, and, and, and. And then there is the cooking itself : steaming, broiling, baking, simmering and all along the smells and tastes that make you look forward to the finished meal all the more :P
Cooking is fun ! You should give it a try, discover new ingredients, taste another culture and hey ! share recipes and ideas :D
Or even better, invite friends over and spend a warm summernight over great food and drinks and inspiring conversations !
Or have a candlelight dinner with your special loved one like me !
Talk to you tomorrow, until then be good

Rock'n roll !

It's SCROLLTIME !
Paper ready, ruler and pencil at hand I'm marking down the layout for new scrolls for Drachenwald and Trimaris. Hubby is going to be away all next week covering the G8 meeting here in Florida and so I'll have plenty of time in the evenings after sending the babydragon off to bed.
Perfect for calligraphying and painting scrolls.
And making up my mind for a possible A&S competition entry.
I have never done it before and thinking about it makes me feel a bit woozy around stomach and knees which you could probably call "performance anxiety". Yes, my work's gotten a few compliments and a Laurel congratulated to my nice calligraphy hand but a competition is a competition and in the end all us artsy people are a bit touchy when it comes to critical comments.
So for now [and until I've found enough courage to actually really pursue that idea *g*] I'm reading other people's documentations and how-tos on documentation and how to survive an A&S competition without commiting suicide, either before, during or after
Heck, they might shrug and ignore my stuff and if worst comes to worst I can still leave the kingdom and hide in shame somewhere in the Outlands ... or so :P
Until then I'll try to get some practice in - Tata !
Lil" whimps
06.03.04 (3:06 pm) [edit]
Last night was horrible and so was pretty much all of today :
Finn didn't sleep well and didn't want to go back to sleep at 3:40am and woke at his usual early hour just to be whiny and clingy and was so not his usual grinny and happy impish self.
Later today I found out why. He had finally fallen asleep next to me on our bed instead of his crib and vast asleep popped out his pacifier revealing his nolonger toothless gums - and 4 more little points and dents showing that he was busy sprouting 4 new teeth at once.
Now, considering that he had been an angel
And now we're off to set the bathroom under water - it's time for Finn's bath !
Cheers !

I love thunderstorms : the wild wind, the rain pouring down as if the Gods were emptying buckets on us, the rolling thunders and the bright sudden flashes of lightning tearing through the leaden skies - it's just awesome and since thunderstorms here seem to be even more magnificent than in good ol' germany I had a blast tonight watching the heavens fall together with Finn who enjoyed the crispy cool raindrops straying through the screendoor.
Until the house next to us got struck by lightning and actually caught fire.
Heh. Not like we noticed anything was wrong until firetruck after firetruck began pulling into our deadend parkinglot, lights flashing, engines rumbling and firefighters scrambling up their slippery trucks and hurrying through the pouring rain to assist it in keeping the fire in check *scratches head*
The funny thing is : the worse it gets, the more levelheaded and calm I am. Final exams, tricky situations at work, odd bums at the hotel threatening staff and guests, cut-throat gestures from the one or the other dominant guest of unknown citizenship, Finn's birth and now that strike of lightning - the more threatening a situation the more I am amazed how calm I stay. It's almost scary :? I had purse, diaperbag, umbrella, Finn and phone ready in case we had to leave the house [it wasn't quite obvious at first what had happened] but that was as exciting as it got.
Good thing nothing serious went wrong though and now - only about an hour later - everything is back to normal again.
Oh, thunderstorm watch is still on for another 2 hours but looking at the skies I think we're fine for tonight :D
So it's off to painting scrolls *G*

TMT and second chances
06.01.04 (9:44 pm) [edit]
Never thought I'd get that much feedback on my last entry :D
Of course I'll give my new home a second, third and if necessary forth and fifth chance and even then I'm hard to stop from trying to corrupt people to the nifty side of things *chuckles* I'm insane that way. Plus, I have already met quite a bunch of cool people that simply rock and so 'm hoping the next event is going to be more fun. Staying for the whole weekend is definitely going to help.
It's just that after hearing so much about everything and some mentioning how much "better" it is that I was simply disappointed with what I saw. I had expected more, especially from a kingdom event. And that fur-bikini was just scary *nodnodnodnod*
I am NOT an authenticity nut, I just love pretty stuff :D
and it's so easy to cover up and hide plastic stuff. And I'll just share what I know about it and maybe I can corrupt one or the other to do it too.
And that's where the fun begins !
Talk to you tomorrow, until then be good :P
